- Go Spelunking at Natural Bridge Caverns
These caverns are a 40-minute drive north on I-35. They are an incredible, must-see sight for any traveler and a true work of natural art. The cavern gets its name from the 60 ft. limestone bridge that crosses near the cavern’s entrance, and it is a sight to behold. You may want to stop there, however, if you’re scared of going to deep—the tour goes to a depth of 180 feet below the surface!
- Make a Stop in Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg is located about an hour north of San Antonio. It has a vast history, and it is recognized most for its deep roots in wine and vineyards. There are several nationally acclaimed wineries, antique shops, and excellent dining establishments in the area. Feel free to take in the view as Fredericksburg is also home to many unique and beautiful homes, apartments, and cabins. If you’re looking for a small town ripe with wine and culture, this is it.
- Take a Hike at Enchanted Rock
If you’re looking for adventure within an hour’s drive, Enchanted Rock provides that and more. Part of the Texas State Parks System, this area provides a great getaway from the city with rock climbing, picnics, camping, and of course a beautiful area to hike. The landmark of Enchanted Rock is a rock dome that rises over 400 ft. above the ground. It’s a sight that every traveler should behold once.
- Visit Garner State Park
The park is about 90 miles west of San Antonio, and the destination is well worth the drive. The park provides easy access to the crisp Frio River, miles of gorgeous hiking, and wonderful camping spots. Garner State Park is a great place to bring the family for a day out. Catch a summer dance or spend the day swimming, inner tubing, or paddle-boating down the beautiful Frio River.
- Place A Bet At Retama Park
Retama Park is about 40 minutes northeast of San Antonio. It is home to horse, dog, and even ostrich racing during the right seasons. You can sit and watch or up the ante by placing a bet on one of the races. It is also a family-friendly venue with good food at a great value.
